Components can be grouped by assemblies / sub-assemblies
This operation requires all components to be at the same location. It can be done on aircraft or when the parts are located in the same stock.
Once components are identified as sub-assemblies, their location and condition become the ones of the main assembly. Major components like engines, APU, landing gears are typically recorded as assembly to allow all sub-assemblies to follow the main assembly when the major component is installed on aircraft, removed from aircraft or moved to a different location.
NOTE 1: Assemble and Disassemble operations are recorded as a logistic operation and are part of the component history. The date of this assemble or disassemble operation will become the last known operation for this component. As an example, if you want to install an assembly on aircraft on the 15th of January at 14:00, make sure that sub-assemblies are assembled with the main assembly prior to this date & time. If, for example, the sub-assemblies were assembled on the 16th of January, AMS will raise an error message when the installation TAG is entered on 15 January saying "The component xxxx already has an history after this date"
To assemble a sub-assembly with the main assembly:
1/ Select the main assembly in the Part/Batch module ( Part / Batch Description )
2/ Open the Assembly window
3/ Select the component (sub-assembly)
4/ Drag the material code of the sub-assembly onto the Assembly Window
5/ A message window opens and requests the date of assembly. Enter this date (read Note 1 above)
To disassemble a sub-assembly from the main assembly:
1/ Select the main assembly in the Part/Batch module ( Part / Batch Description )
2/ Open the Assembly window
3/ Select the sub-assembly in the Assembly window (left click), then right click to open the contextual menu
