Display the ATA chapters available in AMS
The ATA chapters are preset with the ATA chapters as defined by the ATA 100 standard. This standard only defines the 3 first digits.
2 options are available (it is a good practice to make a choice between these two options at an early stage)
Option 1: Using generic ATA chapters
Do not define specific ATA chapters (as defined in option 2) and use the ATA chapter table as delivered. Note this ATA 100 table also contains some 4th ranked chapters.
The advantage of this solution is the use of a common table for every ATA classification, which is more consistent when working on different aircraft types.
Option 2: Using specific ATA chapters
Each aircraft manufacturer defines his own supplement to the generic ATA 100 chapters. These supplements are specific to each aircraft type and are usually defined in the IPC and/or in the AMM.
To use specific ATA chapters, let the generic ATA chapters (which are the same for all aircraft types) and add the specific chapters to each aircraft type (select the appropriate aircraft type with the <aircraft type> button located at the top of the window)
Note the generic ATA chapters originally delivered with AMS also contains some 4th ranked chapters. You may choose to delete these before creating specific chapters, or to keep it as explained hereafter.
When using specific ATA chapters, AMS is still using generic chapters when
- the aircraft type is not specified
- the ATA chapters definition for the concerned aircraft type does not contain a chapter as entered in a document (eg. when a WO is defined as ATA 3256 but the ATA table for this aircraft type does not include ATA 3256)
The ATA chapters of an aircraft type are:
- the specific ATA chapters as defined for this aircraft type
- the generic ATA chapters when their is no specific chapter defined for this aircraft type
Example:
"ATA 2733: Elevator Actuation" is defined as a generic ATA chapter
If you did not define a specific chapter 2733 for A320, then "ATA 2733: Elevator Actuation" is effective to the A320
if you defined "ATA 2733: Elevator sensing elements" as a specific ATA chapter for A320 then, for the A320 only, ATA 2733 is "Elevator sensing elements"
